Naturist beaches

With some of the cleanest coastal waters in the world, a stunning archipelago, many UNESCO world heritage sites, numerous nature reserves and national parks, beautiful beaches and secluded coves, Croatia's many facets appeal to and annually attract many tourists from Germany, Europe and all over the world - not in the least because of the fact that you can completely unwind and be free here, in the truest sense of the word. Croatia has a long tradition of nudism, which is still very much appreciated by naturists. The year 1953 saw the first official nudist beaches and in this context, numerous campsites where nudists can indulge in nudist pleasure without violating any rules- because not every beach is intended for the naturist.

The Numereous Nudist Beaches in Istria and the Kvarner Bay

Croatia is a pioneer among destinations that have advocated toleration of nudism. And so, it is not surprising to find many beautiful beaches where nudists can sunbathe and relax. Exceptionally note-worthy are the nude beaches on the Istrian Peninsula and those to the eastern bordering Kvarner Bay. Here, nudists will find secluded bays and coastal areas that are surrounded by unspoilt nature and often have plenty of privacy and seclusion. Nudist beaches, in general, usually share a direct border to naturist campsites - such as the Koversada between Porec and Rovinj or Bunculuka by Baska on the Island of Krk. While some beaches for nudists are quite isolated or sometimes located on remote islands, there are also many beaches which are divided into a part for nudists - and one for clothed bathers. These include Zlatni Rat on the Island of Brac or the Borik Beach in Mali Losinj.

On Croatia's Istrian peninsula, there are a number of naturist beaches and campsites near Porec, Medulin, Rovinj and Vrsar. Further east, in the Kvarner Bay, the Island of Krk with the nudist beaches of Bunculuka by Baska, Konobe by Punat and the Paradise Beach in Malinska stand out in particular.

The Bunculuka Beach boasts numerous attractions such as restaurants and sport activities as well as being wheelchair accessibility. One of the most beautiful beaches on the Island of Rab can also be visited by nudists: On the sandy Sahara Beach in Lopar, nudist bathing is permitted. The Sahara Beach is like many other nude beaches in Croatia with natural coastal areas. It has (compared to other beaches) very few tourist offers. At the same time secluded bays and wildly romantic beaches are usually difficult to reach- for example, only by boat or along narrow trails. This means that not every nudist beach is also suitable for people with reduced mobility, the elderly or children.

Wild Beaches for Textile-Free Swimming

Although Croatia does provide a variety of official nude beaches, many nudists also use the wild coastlines for nude bathing. Here, however, one should be careful because nude bathing is not tolerated at every beach- even if such information is not available. Thus, nude bathing could become problematic; for example, at some wild beaches that border property lines. Basically, one can assume that nudism will be tolerated when the beaches are very remote and when the difficult to reach beaches have a low number of bathers.
