Sandy beaches

Croatia does not have a reputation for its particularly large number of sandy beaches, which is why many families with smaller and older children avoid the country, unjustly so. If you look more closely, after all, you will find genuine sandy beaches or at least beaches that have a sandy seabed in every region, in almost every Riviera and on almost every island. Upon closer examination, the number of proper sand beaches begin to pile up, especially around the Lopar Resort on Rab Island, around Nin near Zadar and around the towns of Crikvenica in Kvarner and Omis in central Dalmatia. In addition, there are also many bathing coves with sandy beaches and sandy seabeds on the Islands of Susak, Vir, Pag, Pasman, Ugljan and Murter in the northern part of the Adriatic, as well as on the Islands of Vis, Hvar, Brac, Korcula, Mljet, the Peljesac Peninsula and the Elaphiti Archipelago in the southern portion of the Adriatic Sea. Scattered sandy beaches can also be found in other places, such as on the Island of Dugi Otok and around Medulin and Umag in Istria.

Sandy Beaches – very well developed for tourism

It has never been more worth it to take the time to search for sandy beaches in Croatia because, upon doing so, you will be rewarded with a wonderful bathing paradise: the mainly golden yellow, fine sand mixes well with turquoise water - this is not uncommon! The best evidence of this includes the lovely beaches in Sakarun on Dugi Otok or Prapratno in the southern region of the Peljesac Peninsula- they all certainly glow with a Caribbean flair. In addition to their stunning seas and sandy coastlines, the sandy beaches in Croatia usually delight guests with their varied recreational offers for swimmers of all age groups. By virtue of their rarity, most beaches are always well attended and, therefore, of great importance for the local tourist industry. Many beaches have sufficient food selections, sanitary facilities, entertainment and recreation activities: From water sports to playgrounds; from Aqua Parks to massages - the sandy beaches leave nothing to be desired! At the same time, some of the sandy bathing paradises flying the "Blue Flag" have barrier-free accessibility. Croatia has over 100 beaches boasting a "Blue Flag", so it will not be difficult to find numerous sandy bathing paradises here; such as Bijeca in Medulin in Istria, Cikat on the Island of Losinj, Zaton near Nin, Jaz on the Island of Ugljan, Planjka on the Island of Pag, Bacvice in Split or Punta in Omis. The best feature of the beautiful sandy beaches in Croatia is that you will have predominantly shallow shores, which are ideal for small children and non-swimmers in particular.

Idyllic Bathing Coves with Sandy Beaches

In addition to the sandy beaches which are touristically and gastronomically well-developed, such as the Velika Przina in Lumbarda (Korcula Island) or Trstenica near to Orebic on Peljesac, there are numerous idyllic coastlines in Croatia whose sandy features promise hours of fun by the sea. The picturesque beaches are nestled into unspoilt by nature surroundings, and there are some secluded, delightful, sandy beaches in Croatia that are sometimes only accessible via trails. Not only families but also romantic couples and older swimmers enjoy the tranquility of these coves. For example, there is the beach of Sahara by Lopar (nudist swimming), the Stoncica Bay on Vis and Sakarun on Dugi Otok. A little busier, but not in least less idyllic, are the beaches of Lovrecina on Brac and Grebisce on Hvar.

Whether it be in Umag on the Peninsula of Istria, in the Kvarner Bay with the Islands of Krk and Mali Losinj or the North Dalmatian Islands of Ugljan (Kostanj, Sabusa, Mala Sabusa near Kukljica), Pasman (Sovinje by Tkon) and Murter (Slanica by Murter), tourists do not need to necessarily leave their beloved pet at home. Some of the sandy beaches- such as near Silo on Krk or Medulin in Istria - are located in close proximity to official or wild dog beaches.
