Dubrovnik Summer Festival

The southern Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik has a rich cultural heritage that is celebrated in today's active music, art and theater scene. The annual highlight of Dubrovnik's cultural scene is its summer festival with first-class concerts and theatrical performances, which takes place from July 10th to August 25th. The  first festival was organized in 1950 and has now become one of the oldest cultural celebrations in Croatia. At that time, the post-war period and the division of Europe was responsible for an exceptional atmosphere in both the West and East. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival was the best meeting place for western and eastern creativity, away from the "Iron Curtain". The event made and continues to make great contributions to European integration. The initiators of the festival also aimed to harmonize the moods of the Renaissance and Baroque eras that have influenced Dubrovnik for decades. The festival tries to transfer the spirit of older times to the present moment and also, therefore, into today's literature and art. For the 65th anniversary in 2014 and like every other year, the town enjoys.

Between the ancient city walls of Dubrovnik- classical music, theater or ballet performances, which are created and represented by Croatian and international soloists, artists, playwrights and artists. Whether it be Hamlet, or Goethe's Iphigenie: The organizers of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival intertwine plays, works of international literature and music history perfectly with the historic surroundings of the town. Through this, architectural heritage and cultural arts fuse together. Gradac Park, the Rector's Palace and Sponza Palace as well as churches and monasteries transform into regular venues for various performances. International artists and performers stir up quite the sensation when they give exclusive guest appearances at the Summer Festival. Among other things, the British actor Daniel Day Lewis appears as Shakespeare's Hamlet.

The various pieces are performed on over 30 stages. Every year thousands of artists and tens of thousands of visitors come together for 45 days of entertainment. Tickets can be bought or reserved in the Baroque Palace (corner of Stradun and Od Sigurate) or online. As tickets do become sold out quite quickly, we suggest booking early online. Admission is based on the type and number of concerts that you want to visit. Most of the scheduled programs begin in the evening hours around 9 PM. During peak times, parking lots and garages quickly fill-up, so it is recommended to travel using public transport.
