Istria - Istrian Spring Trophy

Istria - Istrian Spring Trophy

The Istrian Spring, despite its name, does not deal with scenery, but concerns a sporting event that is usually held in March (from March 12 to 15 in 2015), on Croatia's Istrian peninsula. It is a stage race of the UCI International (Union Cycliste Internationale) Europe Tour, which first took place in 1961. By 2005, the bicycle race was being held under the name Jadranska Magistrala (Adriatic Highway). The current record holder to have participated at the Istrian Spring is Janez Zakotnik from the former country of Yugoslavia. He has won the race a total of four times as overall winner.

In general, the international road cycling race consists of four stages: a prologue and three stages that encompass challenging routes over most of the peninsula. The race has been listed under the UCI category 2.2. Similar to other stage races, the Istrian Spring has three trophy winners for three days and an overall winner. Cities where the stages start are Porec, Vrsar and Pazin. The participants will cross the finish line in Labin, Motovun and Umag. Even the stretch between Pazin and Umag measures a total of 157 km. Eligible participants have to be licensed UCI World Teams, UCI Professional Continental teams and national teams. Spectators can cheer on the cyclists from the side of the road and track their progress from the start to the finish. It is not currently known what the fees for participation are or what admission fees cost.
