Lacemaking in Croatia

Ever since the Renaissance lace-making in Croatia has been widespread - reason enough for UNESCO to put it on the list of world cultural heritage sites in 2009. The production of precious, delicate lace is indeed widespread throughout the Mediterranean. However, Croatian lace is characterized by its unique patterns and designs that have evolved over the centuries. Centers in Croatia where lace-making is especially typical include the islands of Hvar and Pag and Lepoglava city in the north of the country.
