Nature park Ucka

Ucka Nature Park was founded in 1999 and covers an area of 160 km² from eastern Istria to the Kvarner Bay. The park shares its name with the mountain range that characterizes its landscape alongside its two highest elevations: Mount Vojak (1,401 meters) and Veli Planik (1,272 meters). The nature park is home to some unique flora and fauna which is worth protection. Some plants and animals, such as the enchanting Tommasini Bellflower or the majestic Golden Eagle, can only be admired and photographed in the pristine natural environment.

Tourist Attractions and Leisure Activities in Ucka Nature Park

Even a mild climate prevails in the mountainous highlands due to the park's proximity to the Adriatic. The nature park is then lush and wooded. A dense network of footpaths and cycle routes for mountain bikers pervades the landscape. An experience of a special kind is to make the climb to the top of Mount Vojak. Waiting at the top is a stone observation tower providing stunning views, which is enough of a reward for visitors who made the effort to climb up there. The tower features an enchanting panoramic view over the Istrian peninsula and the northern Adriatic islands. On a clear day you can even see Venice in the distance. In addition to hikers and mountain bikers, there are also more than enough opportunities for climbers and free-climbers in particular to pursue their sport. The spectacular Vela Draga Canyon on the west side of the park is a geomorphological natural monument under special protection. It is of no wonder that it is protected as the canyon is still marked by bizarre pointy rock formations and limestone columns. Due to the difficulty in accessing this part of the park, it provides endangered animals and plants with an ideal habitat. Vela Draga is so popular that climbers and free-climbers come here from all over the world. Vela Draga has 62 routes of varying difficulty. The pinnacles and practically vertical limestone columns are extremely difficult to climb - a triumph for every climber who manages it. Those who do not take pleasure in climbing, can explore the unique beauty of this nature park on several trails, including the Slap Hiking Path. Most fascinating, however, is discovering the beauty of this land on horseback. The Bubac Ranch offers guided rides for beginners.

Iydillac Villages

There are some villages in the nature park, where you can, among other things, take a break in one of the restaurants and sample the delicious specialties of the region. Highly recommended is the fresh sheep's cheese that comes from the free-range sheep in the nature park. The small village of Brgudac is located below the source of the Korita and is an excellent starting point for many walking routes, including the climb to the top of Mount Veli Planik. In all cases, you should also visit the medieval castle of Kozljak embedded in the picturesque landscape.
