Nature park Vransko jezero

Croatia's Largest Freshwater Lake

On the north Dalmatian coast between Zadar and Vodice lies Vrana Lake Nature Park (Vransko jezero), a freshwater lake which is in some places only a kilometer away from the Adriatic Sea. With an area of 30.2 square kilometers, the Vrana Lake is the largest natural lake in Croatia and the area under protection even covers a larger area. Vrana Lake Nature Park is approximately 57 square kilometers big and is rich in fish (pike, mullet, eels, etc.), as well as in birds. This is why the reserve is a haven for ornithologists and nature lovers. Grebes, ducks and coots are only a few of the birds you can see in Vrana Lake Nature Park, which has 250 different species of birds that are rare and / or endangered species.

Walking and Cycling Along the Lake

Not only ornithologists and anglers enjoy the Vrana Lake Nature Park, but walkers and cyclists also enjoy the vivid natural lake. A 30 km trail leads around the lake, which can be followed on foot or by bike. The path leads past various viewpoints. At some of these you can smell the wonderful aroma of sage that thrives in this area.

For entry into Vrana Lake Nature Park one adult is charged around 3 Euros per day. A fishing license costs about 10 Euros per day and if you want to rent kayaks, it costs around 17 Euros. For those especially interested in its ornithological diversity, Vrana Lake Nature Park also offers a guided tour or an individual bird watching experience. Whether bird watching, fishing or cycling,  Vrana Lake Nature Park has a lot to offer in terms of leisure and overall as a tourist destination.
