Baredine Cave

A holiday on the Istrian peninsula in northwestern Croatia can be enriched by taking an exciting tour: Near Porec, there is the wonderful Baredine Stalactite Cave, which is extraordinarily rich in stalactites and stalagmites. Its geological characteristics give visitors a fascinating view into the complex cave passages that were already being researched at the beginning of the last century. One of the highlightsm while on a walk through the cave, is the subterranean lake. The underground lake is located at the foot of a 66 meter deep gorge, a place visitors will walk past. During the guided tour, visitors will have 40 minutes to admire the mythic rock formations. Overall, the tour crosses through five halls, which are connected by well maintained stairs and paths.

It is recommended to wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear because of, firstly, the temperatures which average 14 degrees Celsius and, secondly, due to the humid climate. A tour exploring the cave leaves every half an hour. Guided tours are conducted in the following languages: Croatian, Italian, German, English, Russian and, upon request, Slovenian and French. Adults pay about 8 Euros for an entrance fee that includes a tour and children pay 5 Euro. A parking lot is available for free. It is also possible to travel here via bus (bus stop is Nova Vas) and you will have to cover the last kilometers on foot.

Recreational activity around the cave

The Baredine Cave is an ideal day trip for travelers because, in addition to the natural spectacle of the cave, there are many possibilities to relax in a café or have a picnic "above ground". There is an exhibition of historic tractors and around this, there is even more for families with children as well as adults and teenagers to discover: local foods, souvenirs, a playground and a climbing center. In addition, there are photos and information about speleology that add to what visitors will learn during the tour.
