Anyone wishing to combine culinary delights and sightseeing with no complications, belongs right in Kolan in the heart of the Pag Island. Here, where the Pag sheep shield themselves from the violent winds behind drywalls, eat aromatic herbs refined with sea salt and get milked by hand, is where the heart of the Pag cheese production beats. The Gligora (Sirana Gligora) cheese dairy is by far the largest and best known manufacturers of the excellent Pag cheese, which is to say without question the best in the world. Situated on a hill between Pag and Novalja on road 106, this diary offers unique insights into the traditional production of this culinary treasure.
Those who are expecting to see a tiny cheese cellar and a small guest parlor have another thing coming - tradition and modernity go hand in hand at Gligora: in the production as well as in the presentation of its tasty cheese with a golden crust. Interested guests can take a tour and visit the production area and see how different varieties are stored. Visitors will enjoy these heavenly delights during the subsequent tasting in the specially equipped "Cheese tasting room" where various cheeses very typical of the island are served with wind-dried ham, olives, homemade bread and local wine.
A tour costs 60 kunas per person and includes a warm smile, traditional indulgence and exciting insights. How could you resist it? Guided tours take place from Monday to Saturday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (reservations accepted, but not necessary). Parking is located directly in front of the cheese factory - very handy if you really should opt for the large, heavy cheese loaf at the store ...

Comment: Wir sind im September 2022 mit der Besitzerin der Käserei durch die Produktion gegangen und haben die einzelnen Produktionsräume besichtigen dürfen. Die Besitzerin war sehr nett und wir konnten neben den Produktionsräumen auch das Lager sehen dürfen, in welchem gerade die Reinigung der einzelnen Käselaibe stattfand. Die Führung endete dann im Käsecafé, in welchem man dann auch essen konnte bzw. eine große, fantastische Verkostungsplatte (ca. 46€, es gibt auch kleinere aber wir waren zu 7.) essen konnte. Alles in allem ein sehr interessanter und leckerer Nachmittag und allemal einen Abstecher wert!

Wir haben heute zu 5. eine Besichtigung der Käsefabrik in Kolan gemacht. Eintritt waren 35 Kuna pro Person. Wir haben - dank einer Schweizer Reisegruppe - eine deutsche Führung bekommen. D.h. uns wurden vor der Firma kurze Infos mitgegeben (wieviele Mitarbeiter, wieviele Tonnen Käse im Keller gelagert werden, welche Auszeichnungen sie bekommen haben und noch etwas mehr - aber nicht viel). Dann mussten wir eine Schutzkleidung anziehen und besichtigten die Fabrikationsräume. Eigentlich gesagt wurde man im Eiltempo ohne Erklärung der verschiedenen Prozesse an den Maschinen vorbei durch die Halle, das Treppenhaus und den Lagerkeller geschleust. Dann wieder durchs Treppenhaus in den Raum zur Verkostung - jedoch nicht für uns, da wir keine gebucht haben aber auch nicht mal gefragt wurden ob wir (natürlich gegen Aufpreis) eine Verkostung haben möchten. Wir waren sehr verärgert über eine solche Abzocke!!! Probieren konnten wir dann verschiedenen Käse im Shop, wo uns eine wirklich nette Verkäuferin eine weit aus bessere Erklärung gegeben hat. Eigentlich hätte sie die 35 Kuna pro Person verdient, denn im Hintergrund lief ein Video von der Fabrik. Es war wirklich ein Reinfall diese Besichtigung !!!!!!! Dauer höchstens 15 Miunten
