Sea organ

In 2005, the architect Nikola Basic created one of the most popular attractions directly on the sea in the city of Zadar: The Sea Organ! The award-winning architectural masterpiece - Morske orgulje - is located right on the waterfront, at the extreme north-western tip of the old town peninsula of Zadar. Here, where the ocean waves gently lap against the sea wall, numerous visitors become enchanted by the strange melodies of the Sea Organ. With the pulsing of each wave, the organ pipes or rather tubes within the stepped structure create different tones.

There are 35 different lengths of organ pipes over a total length of 70 meters that  are flushed out with every wave, forcing the air out of the holes and consequently generating different tones. In this way, a unique, mostly soothing ocean song is played with each wave. Even if you go for a walk in the area, you can listen to the sounds of the Sea Organ and enjoy the magnificent views of the Ugljan Island to the fullest. In this context, it's important to mention the world-famous film director, Alfred Hitchcock, who is often and willingly quoted as saying that he experienced the most beautiful sunset in the world at this location. Many residents in Zadar as well as tourists are attracted to this waterfront in the evenings, where the sea organ exudes a special charm. Zadar's number one tourist attraction is, on foot, only a few minutes away.
