Romantic Flair in Istria

Fazana is located on the west coast of Istria, immediately before the Brijuni islands, where the Brijuna National Park is found. Fazana is a Croatian-Italian characterized former fishing village with winding streets, a lively waterfront and a scenic, beautiful harbor. Picturesque are the colorful stone houses lined up along the beach promenade and the historic city center. Narrow streets with Mediterranean flair characterize the city and signs of mass tourism are nowhere to be found. Instead, one finds romantic alleys where there are always good restaurants- doors wide open with warm hosts. Also in the picturesque harbor of Fazana there are many local restaurants where you can take a nice break and get something good to eat and drink. Historic Buildings can be experienced with a visit to the parish church St. Kosma and the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Start Exploring the Lush Surroundings

Due to its location the fishing village is an ideal starting point for a visit to the Brijuni National Park on the neighboring, same named island group. This has a long tradition that can be seen not only in different sculptures, but also to the fishing academy "Pilchard", where you can learn everything about anchovies in Fazana. Simultaneously, anchovies are particularly dominate in the regional cuisine. Marinated, pickled or fried: the Fazaner know how to typically prepare the spicy fish, Croatian style.

Here the town conjures up an idyllic cityscape from the Roman monuments, medieval walls and romantic streets. One of the most beautiful sights of Pula is its magnificent amphitheater- one of the best preserved Roman arenas still existing. Not far from Pula is Medulin which boasts an idyllic bay and crystal clear waters (sandy beach). Due to the mild climate and beautiful beaches Medulin is frequented by families. The most beautiful beaches are found on Kap Kamenjak, a nature reserve west of Medulin. Also worth seeing is the medieval town of Motovun, a town known for its white truffles situated inland of the peninsula, and Porec with its UNESCO World Heritage Site building- Euphrasius Basilica. Here you can see some of the best preserved  mosaics of their kind on the front and on the inside walls of the basilica. In the evening Porec is a popular tourist destination for bar-hopping and clubbing because there are many places in the region for nightlife events.

For a really relaxing holiday in Croatia, a visit to Rovinj in the west of Istria is the right place. Narrow cobbled streets invite you to a relaxing tour of the Venetian-influenced city, which exudes a romantic atmosphere. This is largely due to the picturesque, colorful stone houses that run along the promenade up until the Old Town. From Rovinj you can reach the Lim channel in a short period of time. The channel is used by the many locals and visitors for boat tours, kayak tours or its cliffs for climbing. This region of the Istria peninsula, displays the versatility of Croatia with its varied opportunities for leisure, sports, bathing and eating.
