Marina

In the center of a deeply cut bay near Trogir is the picturesque seaside village of Marina, which is well-known for its historic and scenic, formative fortress. This fortress was originally built by the bishops of Trogir, in order to defend themselves against the Turks' attacks. Today the fort, built in 1495, now dominates the picturesque and lively waterfront promenade. Many tourists will marvel at the rustic building in the harbor, which has been converted into a hotel. The sacred buildings in Marina bear witness to its history, such as the Church of Sveti Ivan and the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, which were built in the Gothic and Renaissance style. The latter is perched upon the Drin Hill above the harbor, which can accommodate 120 anchored boats. According to legend, snow used to fall here in August. The Church of Sveti Ivan is surrounded by the central Stjepana Radica Square and makes for fascinating scenery. In 1495 the church was integrated into the city wall.

Residents traditionally lean towards the fishing and sailing industry, which is reflected in Marina today. The restaurant menus here are, therefore, characterized by fish and seafood dishes refined by herbs and vegetables. Leisure time is then devoted to sailing or being on the water in general. Amateur sportsmen and nature lovers come at their own accord for hiking and biking tours in the surrounding areas.
