Novi Vinodolski

Novi Vinodolski, a great resort with around 5,100 inhabitants is located between Crikvenica and Senj in close proximity to the island of Krk in the northeast of the Kvarner bay. The origins of this Croatian town started with the noble Francopan family who settled here and established, inter alia, the Novigrad Castle. This castle was maintained until 1761, when it was then partially demolished due to the high maintenance costs. From the lively square going around the fort, you can even today recognize the round tower, which the residents of Novi Vinodolski call "Rondela". The tower is part of the Kvadrac Francopan-Fortress that was built in the 13th century. Today there is a museum in the castle with traditional costumes and other historical traces of the city. One of the most important "products" of the city of Novi Vinodolski is located in the Science Library in Zagreb. This is the "Law of Vinodol", the oldest Slavic legal document first adopted in 1288. It was put into force until the 19th century.

The castle of Novigrad is located in the heart of Novi Vinodolski, whose old town was built above the beach on a small hill. Just steps away from the castle is the Sveti Filip i Jakov (Saints Phillip and Jacob) Cathedral. Dating back to the 14th century, this church has a bright white bell tower, which is 36 meters high and dominates the cityscape even from afar. Interesting features of the cathedral are its beautiful stucco elements and the main altar. Here, you will find yourself walking through narrow alleyways and terraces in the tourist town that is dominated by white stone houses all the way down to the waterfront. Here you come across a picture painted by many places in Croatia: Local fishermen mooring their boats, tourists swimming in the blue sea and as evening darkens the city, the traditional restaurants and taverns lighten and bring the vivid city to life. Especially in the summer months when the Novi Vinodolski traditional festivals take place, such as

Especially in the summer months when the Novi Vinodolski traditional festivals take place, such as the Fisherman's Night, the bars and restaurants are crowded until late in the night. Traditional food, song and dance are just too tempting for locals and tourists to say no to.

There are many ways to enjoy a wonderful view of Novi Vinodolski. Next to the Church of the Holy Trinity, which dates back to the 15th century and should be established as a museum, the three viewpoints of "Gradina", "Sviba" and "Kuk" are worth seeing. The climb can be ideally combined with a hike or bike ride, but it is also possible to travel by car and bus. The region around Novi Vinodolski is also very interesting. In addition to the two longest-established touristy towns of Opatija and Rijeka in the north of Kvarner, you can learn about the lively pirate history in the Croatian city of Senj. The coastal town of Senj can be quickly reached within an half-hour drive south.
