Rabac - Holidays on Gleaming White Pebble Beaches

Located in Istria, Rabac, a Croatian coastal town 5 kilometers from Labin is the main tourist center on the east coast of the peninsula. The foundation for today's tourism was laid out by the writer Richard Francis Burton in 1876 who described the beauty of the coast of Istria and the picturesquely situated Rabac with its beautiful bay and the green rollings hills in the background. By the end of the 19th century, the many summer homes attracted travelers and with the influx of tourism the former fishing village's industry evolved.

Diverse Attractions - Whether it be the Beach, Water or Nature

Rabac has retained its charm as a small fishing village at the foothills of the Ucka mountain range. While on the gleaming white pebble beaches you can enjoy the panoramic view towards the Adriatic Sea and by turning around, you will see the Mediterranean landscape with green, partly stony hills- ideal for cyclists, walkers and horse riders. The mild climate, which exists in many parts of Croatia, provides pleasant summer months with fresh breezes and temperatures around 28 degrees. All beaches in Rabac are white pebble beaches, which form a heavenly-acting contrast to the blue of the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea. A great beach is located on the peninsula of Sveti Andrija near the marina of Rabac. Pines and olive trees give the St. Andrea beach enough shade. In close proximity to the gently sloping beach there are several recreational and leisure facilities as well as restaurants and bars located along the waterfront.

In Rabac and its surroundings there are plenty of opportunities to join in on diverse holiday activities: for example, diving, fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding and windsurfing. A special attraction worth experiencing is the Regatta of Rabac named "Labin Republic"- a short-lived miner republic. It was named after Regatta Rabac, who rallied the miners to uprise in Labin in 1921 and protest

A special attraction worth experiencing is the Regatta of Rabac named "Labin Republic"- a short-lived miner republic. It was named after Regatta Rabac, who rallied the miners to uprise in Labin in 1921 and protest against bad working conditions. After 36 days the uprising was violently suppressed, and it has gone down in the history books as the Labin Republic. Today you can visit the mountain mine in Labin, enjoy a miner breakfast and buy many souvenirs concerning the history of the Labin Republic. Furthermore, a visit to Labin is recommended because of attractions such as the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary's Birth and the Church of St. Andreas.

Versatile Attractions in the Surrounding Areas

Fantastic hiking trails can be found in the Brijuni National Park located on the southwest coast of the island group of Brijuni. A visit not only brings you closer to the versatile nature, but also to the wildlife at the Safari Park. In the northwest of the peninsula, you can get a good view of the Istrian countryside from the top of the lighthouse in Savudrija, north of Umag. Day trips in the vicinity of Rabac include Pula with its famous Roman amphitheater and the picturesque city of Rovinj, both cities are in the southern and western areas of Istria. These cities offer in addition to historical sites, a vibrant nightlife with many festivals, concerts and performances. Rovinj is a beautiful place with a romantic atmosphere, cozy squares and narrow streets. In the interior, the medieval city of Motovun is rich in cultural and architectural heritage and about 70 kilometers from Rabac. Situated on a hill high above the landscape, this city was settled early. Sitting on the hill as a throne, this city boasts city gate, a fortress, a city wall and defensive towers and palaces. Boring will definitely never be a word used to describe holidays in Croatia.
