Šilo

Silo is a small holiday settlement on the east coast of the island of Krk, which extends in the Kvarner Bay. The tranquil village is located directly opposite the city of Crikvenica, which is located on the Croatian mainland. In 1905 the first steam ship- from a steamship company founded in Silo- took sail back and forth between the two cities. This adds to the proof of this resort's long-standing ties with shipping. In addition to fishing and the typical nautical tourism of the Kvarner Bay, its shipping tradition is even omnipresent under water. This is best experienced by visiting the famous Greek cargo ship "Peltastis" which sunk in Silo and is the highlight of many diving tours. The anchor of "Pelastis" has been salvaged and can be visited in Silo.

Especially interesting for guests is the on land, old settlement of Polje with its original stone buildings above Silo in which the former natives once lived. Mystery lingers around the Biserujka Cave near the Bay of Slivanjska, in which a treasure, according to legend, is buried. The cuisine of Silo consists of many seafood specialties, as well as the "Zvacet" goulash, which is a well- known local dish. Along with a glass of local white wine, Zlahtina, visitors can enjoy a delicious goulash meal in a traditional restaurant.
