Tučepi

Tucepi is a coastal and seaside resort with 1,900 inhabitants lying 4 km south of Makarska. In addition to its gorgeous idyllic coastline flanked by many beautiful pebbled beaches and coves, Tucepi offers a very varied recreational program; especially around the Biokovo Massif that protectively rises over the Riviera. There are many hiking trails and mountain bike routes, as well as rock walls for climbing. You can also ride horses here.

Due to its long-standing tourist tradition, the surrounding hotel complexes in Tucepi today provide many various leisure and sports facilities- on water as well as on land. From the small marina you can also begin boat tours to the islands of Brac and Hvar. Tucepi is culturally also very versatile and the residents hold many festivals for their long-standing traditions such as harmony singing, fishing or folklore dance. Tourists will find a broad program that primarily encompasses events taking place in the summer season.

Today this town, which is mainly geared towards tourists, boasts an interesting history dating back to the 6th century, when the Croats first began to settle here. Around the year 1000 the Venetians took over control of Tucepi and other localities on the central Dalmatian coast. Similar to other parts of Croatia, Tucepi's history has been marked by further rulers such as those from France and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.

There is a landmark that has survived all the rulers, the church Sveti Juraj (Saint George) from the 13th century. This nave church was built in the Gothic-Romanesque style and is adorned with the local coat of arms. Furthermore, the kastelet built by a former noble family in the 18^th century and now a hotel, is an imposing feature. The former summer residence of the Abbot of Grubisic testifies to the times when noble families were building impressive villas in Tucepi.
