Višnjan

If you drive from the coastal town of Porec about 12 km towards the Istrian inland, you will arrive at the magical town of Visnjan. You can see the fortified city wall and the bell tower even from a distance because the city sits atop a hill about 240 meters above sea level. The city is surrounded by fertile olive groves and vineyards nestled in the rolling hills of the countryside.

Visnjan is not only very scenically appealing, but it also has a lot to offer its visitors culturally and historically. Visnjan is home to an internationally known observatory that is also open to holidaymakers. Furthermore, the Chapel of Saint Anthony originating from the 15th century and the parish Church of the Holy Quirikus from the year 1833 make for worthwhile visits. Guests experience the true beauty of Visnjan the best when they stand at the stone fountain in the old town square. From this elevated vantage point you can really enjoy the splendor of the city and the surrounding countryside. On a clear day with good visibility, you can even observe the sea.

There are also some beautiful day trip destinations close by. There is the famous Baredine Cave near the village of Nova Vas on the way to Porec. From Visnjan, you can reach the cave within only 15 minutes. Another interesting destination is the Boskarin Zoo in which the rare, endangered Boskarin cattle can be observed in the wild. The beautiful surrounding areas are ideal for hiking and cycling - this way you can dive right into the Istrian landscape and get to intensively know the country and its people.
