Riviera Crikvenica

Long Sandy Beaches and Traditional Events

The Kvarner Bay, one of the most beautiful regions of Croatia, offers Mediterranean lands, which provide a fascinating panorama between rugged mountains and the deep blue Adriatic. Vibrant Rijeka is located here on the densely wooded island of Krk. Also here is the city of Senj which has a history spanning back 3000 years and visitors can find many stretches of coastline waiting to be discovered.

The center of Crikvenica Riviera is the main town of Cikvenica and is just about 30 kilometers south of the largest city on the Kvarner Bay east of Istria, Rijeka. Many tourists fly to the airport Rijeka in order to visit the region of the Crikvenica Riviera and to visit the numerous resorts on the nearby islands of Krk, Cres, Losinj and Rab. By car it takes about six hours from Munich to Crikvenica. One advantage of driving along the beautiful coast road is the glimpses of beauty which the Crikvenica Riviera has to offer. This includes not only seeing the beautiful main cities, but also the neighboring towns of Dramalj, Jadranovo and Selce.

Behind every bay and around every corner there is something hiding just waiting to be discovered. From hilly cycling and walking routes, remote bays with sandy beaches to traditional fishing weeks- one of the oldest events in the main town of Crikvenica- there is plenty to do. Another fine beach to visit is "Balustrada" in Crikvenica, a fine pebble beach with partially sandy sections. The beach is perfectly tailored to vacationers with an infrastructure including showers, kiosks and a wealth of things to do. The beach is suitable for solo travelers, couples or families with small children.

Many Festivals Along the Riviera Ensure its Hustle and Bustle

Whether  swimming at one of the sandy beaches with the awarded "Blue Flag", fishing, diving, hiking or cycling in the hinterlands of Crikvenica Riviera: Crikvenica is a place that offers its visitors a lot of variety. Some special features include visiting historic churches of the city,  visiting the aquariums stocked with over 100 fish sorts and the sculpture park which displays the works of the sculptor Dusan Dzamonjas. The Mediterranean hinterlands with its cultural and historical heritage is best experienced with a stroll down its famous “Love Path”, which runs about eight miles through a forest. Various sights, the silent forests, and exciting fragrances await the visitor. The absolute highlight in Crikvenica is the traditional fishing week, dedicated to the exhausting work done in former fishing tradition in the region and attracts many locals and visitors today.

There are various festivals in the surrounding towns such as Selce and Jadranovo that take place yearly. Every summer in Jadranovo they celebrate the so-called Jakovlja, a festival in honor of the patron saint of the city, James. On this occasion, concerts, exhibitions, trade fairs and sports competitions are held in the city. Also in Selce they celebrate their region's, history and traditional customs at various events such as the fisherman's festival, the Ethno Festival, various concerts, regattas and folk music evenings. It is also worthwhile to visit the Lokvišća Bay that brings in  healing mud from the sea. The mud beach is both a great pleasure for adults and children, in addition to the fun you can have splashing around, the mud helps with joint pain and rheumatism. In the same bay of Jadranovo, you can also see the city's long tradition of cultivating wines and olives and fishing. Amphorae pieces found in the Lokvišća Bay suggest that they were already cultivating wine and olives in ancient times.

Attractive are the island's many hours of sunshine, colorful life in the small fishing village and a lot of vegetation, which can also be enjoyed in such places as Dramalj, near Crikvenica. In the Manestra Bay, between Dramalj and Kacjak, you will find a beach with clean water, which is ideal for families with children.
