Baška Voda
On the Makarska Riviera lies the town of Baska Voda with 2,700 inhabitants. The town was formerly characterized by fishing, trade and agriculture, but today, tourism is one of the main sources of income for this central Dalmatian town. The tourists are drawn to Baska Voda due to its picturesque location between Biokovo and the Adriatic Sea- and due to the long beaches that stretch along the coast and attract many visitors in summer. There is no shortage of sightseeing in Baska Voda: Especially fascinating are the archaeological finds from the ruins of Gradina, including the 13 grave stones on which the names of the first inhabitants of Baska Voda have been engraved.
Among them is a boy, who is to have died in a shipwreck between 100 and 150 before Christ. The church of St. Nicholas was built in 1889 in the neo-Romanesque style. It replaced the Church of Saint Lorentz, which had become too small for the growing congregation. The church of Saint Nicholas is now used as a venue for many traditional festivals and music evenings. In Baska Voda there are many leisure activities available: Hiking in the mountains, swimming at the beach, and culturally and historically influenced city tours. After all that adventure, you will want to strengthen up. In regards to dining choices, Baska Voda has restaurants serving regional cuisine as well as internationally focused restaurants, bars and cafés.
