Brtonigla

"Small place with great discoveries" – Brtonigla's self-promoting slogan brings all it has to offer straight to point. Approximately 1,600 people live and work here - who are known for their lavish celebrations and festivals that attract numerous visitors from near and far. Some of the larger festivals hosting a variety of sporting and cultural events include the feast of Saint Rocco (Festa Sv. Roka), the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes (Festa Gospe Lurdske), the night of the Queens (Vecer kraljica Brtonigla), the Feast the Goblets (Zvijezdani kalezi) as well as the wine festival.

Wine in the forefront: Brtonigla is surrounded by many acres of green vineyards and olive groves. Excellent fruits thrive off the fertile soil here that are then used for the exquisite Malvasia wine as well as for delicious olive oil. Brtonigla is primarily a wine town, of which the number of wine bars and wine cellars (mostly family-run) can testify to. In addition to the various festivities, the city still has many architectural and natural attractions. An interesting site to see includes the parish Church of the Blessed Holy Zenon dating back to the 19th century. The church was named after an early Christian martyr. Not far from Brtonigla is the natural karst cave of Mramornica, promising to give all visitors a very special nature experience. The cave is one of the most beautiful and largest underground chambers in Istria. Haven't got enough of nature yet? Head to the Skarline Nature Park, a green oasis lying only two kilometers from Brtonigla.

Since Brtonigla lies inland, about 10 kilometers from the coast, there are no natural beaches present here. However, there are the beautiful beaches close to Umag and just a few minutes away by car or bicycle. The town of Karigador, in particular, with its rocky Ladin Gaj Beach lies not so far away. Since June 2014 Brtonigla has added another attraction: the Aqua Park Istralandia. The park has a variety of water slides, pools, various sports facilities and other services spread out over a total of 4,500 square meters of water- providing fun and excitement for the whole family. It is also home to one of the tallest water slides in Europe: At a height of 27 meters, the Free fall water slide ensures the corresponding adrenaline rush.
