Pomena
Next to the salt-water lakes of Veliko jezero and Malo jezero is the picturesque fishing village of Pomena lying on the Mljet Island where you will find a scenic idyll in the middle of a 53-acre national park. Only 50 residents have found their home here, which provides a view of the Peljesac and Korcula Peninsula. Due to its popularity amongst boaters, the settlement of Pomena lies, from a tourist point of view, in the best location. There is a small grocery store, some souvenir shops and the only hotel on the Mljet Island here. Thanks to the numerous restaurants and taverns in Pomena, you can still enjoy eclectic dining. Many restaurants line up along the promenade, so that a leisurely walk on the rocky shores can be paired up with an evening dinner.
It is recommended that you find another spot for an impromptu swim in the Adriatic Sea because the coast is very rocky here- making it a perfect home to many sea urchins. Nature lovers will not only take pleasure in the coast, but also in the surrounding hinterlands thick with pine forests and the salt water lakes of Veliko jezero and Malo jezero nearby. This area has many beautiful walking and cycling routes with picnic areas. An interesting attraction is the Benedictine monastery on the island of St. Marija in Veliko jezero. You can also try surfing, diving, cycling, canoeing and use the sporting fields.
