Suđurađ
The Church of Sveti Durda, which gave its name to the town, stands out amongst the typical Dalmatian stone buildings and is one of about 30 churches on the island. A special feature of this beautiful square church is that it is actually, upon closer inspection, two churches: The Church of Sveti Durda (1285) and the Church of St. Nicholas (16th c.) that share the same facade and bell tower, but have their own roofs and entrances.
Due to the Sipan Island once being one of the the most popular recreational destinations for wealthy families from Dubrovnik, one finds- as well as throughout the whole Elaphiti Archipelago – many magnificent summer residences and palaces. Two of the most adorned buildings are located in the central square of Sudurad and enthuse guests with their fortress-like construction, defensive walls and watchtower. Cafés, taverns and stalls have been established around the old castles and the harbor.
