Vis Holiday Paradise – Beaches, Culture and Vacation Rentals
For several years, the islands off the Croatian Adriatic coast have been a hidden gem for visitors from around the world. Among over 1,000 islands, the enchanting island of Vis is the most remote, located about 60 kilometers from the mainland. Its seclusion provides numerous idyllic sandy coves. Vis is not only famous for its secluded beaches – it also produces delicious wine as well as some of Croatia’s best lemons, olives, almonds, and figs.
Secluded beaches perfect for swimming
Vis is ideal for a beach holiday. The 90.3 km² hilly island and its nearby island Biševo can only be reached by ferry, which runs regularly from the mainland and from the neighboring island Hvar, about 18 kilometers away. Between May and September, the island enjoys over 10 hours of sunshine per day and daytime temperatures around 25°C – perfect for relaxing at hidden sandy coves. Especially popular are Stiniva Bay and Stoncica Bay. The famous Blue Cave (Bisevska spilja) on Biševo is a popular excursion destination.
Enchanting bays on Vis
Stiniva Bay impresses with its wild romantic scenery and can only be accessed through a narrow rock passage. Stoncica Bay is perfect for families with children due to its gently sloping shore and dense Mediterranean vegetation providing shade. Zaglav Beach near Milna offers tranquility and is reachable within a 10-minute walk. These beaches are examples of the many hidden coves on Vis, ideal for a stress-free holiday.
Holiday accommodations on Vis
Visitors to Vis can choose from a wide range of holiday apartments, studios, rooms, and holiday homes. Whether in Vis Town or Komiža, the accommodations are comfortable and offer direct access to beaches, restaurants, and cultural sights. Many properties feature terraces with sea views or private gardens, perfect for relaxing days in this idyllic island paradise.
Towns on Vis
Beyond the beaches, there is much to explore on Vis. Vis Town in the north originated from a Greek colony, while Komiža lies in the southwest. Both towns offer cozy accommodations, restaurants, bars, and other venues where visitors can enjoy traditional Dalmatian cuisine. Historical sites such as Tito’s caves reflect the island’s military past.
Getting to Vis
Vis is accessible by ferry year-round. Jadrolinija operates line 602 between Vis Town and Split on the mainland, up to twice daily during peak season. For faster travel, the Kapetan Luka/Krilo catamaran line 9602 connects Vis once daily with Hvar and Split. These ferry connections make reaching booked holiday apartments, studios, or homes on Vis easy and convenient.
