Pisak
Located on a relatively pronounced hillside between Omiš (15km) and Makarska (18km), Pisak is an ideal starting point for exploring the natural beauty of this burgeoning region. Pisak is ideal because it advantageously lies relatively far below the busy coastal road running above the village, and, therefore, is not disturbed in any way by this fact. Only a narrow road snakes back and forth down the steep slope into the tranquil idyll.
Pisak has many small, often natural bays with crystal clear waters and finely pebbled and rocky beaches. There is, very close by, a submerged water source for the "Vrulja" River in the center of the lovely "Dupci" Bay. The sea is constantly boiling at this point, so this natural attraction is gladly advertised in Pisak. It is possible to take one of the many boat trips going here.
Otherwise, the always friendly locals live here, far away from the stress of everyday life and simply enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the beautiful views of the offshore island world. The islands of Brac and Hvar lie nearby as well as the wonderful, extending comb of the southern mountain landscape of the Biokovo Massif.
There is also the well-known quarry on the Brac Island which can easily be seen because it faces Pisak which lies about 5 km away. Its famous marble has been used for the Brandenburg Gate (Berlin) and the White House (Washington).
After the summer season, many guests then pack their bags and move to Split where most of them also have an apartment and work. Pisak has, in addition, a small boat harbor in the center, where small boats can be rented. Here you will also find the small and only church of the village, whose bells chime from time to time. Their ringing invokes a dreamy tranquility and sets the daily rhythm of the people today just like earlier.
A variety of mostly small and idyllic beaches surrounded by dense maquis and pine forests can be found in Pisak. In most cases, the finely pebbled, rocky, or sometimes sandy beaches are only up to 100 meters long. Most beaches are natural and safe for individuals and tourists alike and an attractive alternative to the hustle and bustle in neighboring "Brela" over Croatia's borders. Many beaches are only accessible by taking the hiking trails leading through the dense maquis or by boat, thus providing the possibility, under certain circumstances, to have a stretch of beach all to yourself.
Pisak does not have a large gastronomical selection. There is only one restaurant- café in the center of the harbor and a small supermarket which, however, sells everything you need from bread, sausage, cheese and dairy products to newspapers, toiletries and cosmetics. The "Porat" restaurant on the harbor has it all too. A beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the small harbor, across to Brac, provides guests with an unforgettable dinner experience, especially in the evening. They serve, how could they not, diverse fish specialties which are seasoned and prepared according to Dalmatian tradition and garnished with local herbs for your taste buds. Other specialties served at this restaurant just behind the hilltop on the continental hinterland belong to the repertoire of the chefs. Delicious local wines are served, and of course, the little ones will enjoy themselves as well. In Pisak, be prepared to be self-sufficient because this is the only way to preserve this village's modest atmosphere. Post offices, banks, doctors and pharmacies, will only be found in the neighboring, larger coastal towns.
In Pisak there is the possibility to do some water sports. Here you can go water skiing, surfing, windsurfing or jet skiing. It is also possible to take a dive in the rich underwater scenery here. Due to its sloping position, there are no sport fields available. Therefore, boat trips to the neighboring island of Brac are provided. Hiking options are available, which is sure to please guests with pets. You can hike on secured, but non- asphalted paths running parallel to the sea for a few kilometers towards Omis and enjoy the lush nature.
In Pisak there is not much to see except the church and the general natural beauty. For more sightseeing, you can take the bus to Omis or Makarska. Pisak's history dates back to about 500 years ago when the first fishermen settled here and began to subside from sea.
