Pučišća

The Mediterranean island town is closely connected to the tradition of stonemasony. The Veselje quarry, which was the main source of income in Pucisca for a long time, lies to the northeast of the town. The year 1455 was the year when the famous stonemason, Andrija Alesi, created some of his most famous works from the stone in Pucisca. His legacy is being passed down to younger generations in the stonemason school. The bright stone from Pucisca not only shapes its own cityscape, but has also been used all over the world; for example, at the White House in Washington D. C. and in the Vienna Hofburg.

The Church of Sveti Stefan, which was rebuilt in the late 6th century, is a very popular attraction here. They also built a Benedictine Monastery near the church around the same time. Also of great importance here are the Renaissance Church of the Assumption, the Romanesque-Gothic Church of Sveti Juraj and the remains of 13 original castles, which have earned Pucisca the nickname of "Port of Castles". The castle of the Deskovic family, which now houses a luxury hotel, makes for a worthwhile visit.
