Riviera Opatija

Opatija, which is distinguished by the unique flair of the old Danube monarchy, has nearly 12,000 inhabitants and is one of the oldest and most fashionable resorts in the country. Magnificent villas and unique churches dating back mostly to the 19th century originated during the Danube monarchy. Today, these architecturally stunning buildings characterize the city as well as many other places in the Kvarner Bay. Examples of these marvelous works include the Saint Jakob Park with houses a neo-baroque marble fountain from the 19th century and the ancient Church of Christ.

Not far from Opatija, also directly on the Kvarner Bay, lies the picturesque, glamorously famous seaside resort of Lovran. There is a viewing platform on top of the Vojak mountain, which guarantees a wonderful view of the Kvarner Bay, the Cres, Krk and Losinj islands, the Slovenian Julian Alps and the Dolomites. There is even a launch pad for para-gliders at the summit.

As a popular holiday region, the Opatija Riviera has convinced tourists of its charm through its numerous beaches on the Adriatic. The beaches turquoise blue waters shimmer as much as the hearts of its visitors beat. Whether using the beach's facilities or relaxing on the pebble or sand beaches, tourists here feel right at home. The local food, especially various fresh fish dishes, give this already impressive stay its finishing touches. If you want to enjoy first-class prepared seafood, a short trip to the islands of Losinj and Cres, which are quickly accessible by ferry or boat, is definitely worthwhile.
