Sali
Located off the coast of North Dalmatia in the southeast region of the Zadar Archipelago is the island of Dugi Otok ("Long Island" in English). Here you will find the village of Sali, the cultural and administrative center of the island and the largest island town with 1,600 inhabitants. Here you will find, around the Mediterranean port, 2 idyllic coves, one of which serves as a ferry port connecting the island with Zadar. The municipality Sali covers the entire southern region of the Dugi Otok Island, which has been blessed with a richly structured, rugged coastline and numerous idyllic coves. The largely forested region divides the Telascica Nature Park, which is home to the Mir Salt Lake and wild donkeys, from the olive groves from Saljsko Polje, where olive trees have grown for over 700 years - an important natural monument on the island of Dugi Otok.
Not only the old olive groves testify to the agricultural tradition of the inhabitants. Fishing is also a significant industry in Sali. Following tradition, the town also hosts an annual three-day festival, "Saljske Uzance", by which you get to hear local donkey music. The donkey race in August also brings joy to the locals and visitors. Culturally and historically interesting and valuable are the Gothic St. Mary's Church, the Church of St. Nicholas as well as the property from the Rancic Family, which is surrounded by a park in the Baroque style. The alluring bays with their secluded coves and turquoise Adriatic waters around Sali are popular amongst travelers.
