Turanj
About 1,200 people live in the small town of Turanj, which belongs to the municipality of Sveti Filip i Jakov (Saints Phillip and Jacob) on the Adriatic coast in Northern Dalmatia. Located about 23 km south of Zadar, Turanj is one of the most important cities and destinations on the Adriatic coast as well as being an important starting point for boat trips to the offshore Kornati Islands. There are a total of 16 islands and islets lying off the coast of and around Turanj. This is why the Northern Dalmatia region is such a true paradise for boaters. Along the coast, Turanj has developed itself into a port city and has a dry marina just 200 meters from the sea with berths for boats.
The historic city center is mainly dominated by the remains of a medieval fortress and an ancient tower. It is connected to the neighboring town of Sveti Filip i Jakov by the Lungomare waterfront promenade. A colorful mix of restaurants and taverns serve delicious fish and meat dishes, prepared according to Dalmatian cuisine, and often are accompanied by homemade wine. In the summer months, this town becomes particularly lively when the locals celebrate the "day of the patron saint of the church" and the "Turanj Village Festival".
In and around Turanj there are some beaches and coves where you can indulge in secluded, romantic hours far away from the bustle of mass tourism.
