Holidays in Porec

For this reason, it is worth it to plan to stay longer, especially in the old town of Porec. Its magical squares, romantic streets and Mediterranean flair put visitors under its spell and charm you to linger. In addition, both families with children and couples enjoy the great gastronomic selections and are spoiled in many places with their modest prices.

Additionally a religious celebration in the main square (Trg. Slobode) honoring St. Mauro, the patron saint of Porec, takes place every November 21st.

The city’s inhabitants live mainly from tourism, many of whom work in catering establishments or retail. Porec can be reached by public transport as follows: by taking a plane or train to Pula and from there taking a bus or taxi to Porec. Porec offers tourists, alongside the many possibilities for entertainment, a variety of interesting historical sites that are located almost exclusively along the west-east running “decumanus” promenade. 

After the barbarian invasions Porec was under the rule of the Eastern Romans from the mid-6th to the early 9th century. This era gave the city its most famous church, the Euphrasius Basilica – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also of interest is the medieval city wall that once proudly displayed eleven towers, of which three have survived. Far west of the historic old town, the remains of some Roman temple can be seen, the Church “Gospa od Andela”, which was built in the 18th century in Neoclassical style stands.

During your stay in Porec on your Croatian holidays, make sure to take the opportunity to see the nature, such as in the stunningly beautiful “Baredine cave“.  Even a trip to “Lim Channel“, a narrow inlet on the west coast of the peninsula, nearby to the grotto of St. Romualdo of Ravenna is definitely worth a trip. Recommended for families with children is an exploration trip to the Brijuni National Park, the Aqua Park Istralandia or the adrenaline Park Akros. In addition, worthwhile towns to visit are Pula, Rovinj, Motovun, Novigradand Umag.

There are many beautiful beaches in Porec and the surrounding areas, but only the most important beaches in the Porec area will be introduced here. Almost all the beaches have been awarded the “Blue Flag” for clean water and clean facilities. Sanitary facilities as well as shops, restaurants and cafés are, as a general rule, always available somewhere nearby.
