Splitska

The Mediterranean town only started developing, in accordance with present-day knowledge, in the 13th century because previously it was, time and time again, destroyed by the pirates from Omis and had to be rebuilt. During that time, the main source of income included the export of limestone, but most residents now work in the vineyards and the olive groves. In recent decades, Splitska has also been opened up to tourism. Travelers will appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of the town, that has not been affected by the town's original, tumultuous past.

An architectural feature in Splitska is the fortress built in the center in 1577 by Mihovil Cerinić in order to defend the town against the advancing Turks.

Splitska is well developed for tourists: There are several cafés, restaurants and taverns, where local specialties ranging from olives, fish and lamb are served. The small, well-protected harbor is the ideal starting point for trips along the coast. If you want to go to the mainland, you can take the ferry from the neighboring town of Supetar to Split.
