Holiday Rentals in Pašman Island
Literally situated on the doorstep of the city of Zadar is the about 57 km ² island of Pasman. Like its neighboring island of Ugljan, with which it is connected by a bridge, Pasman is separated only by a narrow sea channel from the mainland. The idyllic island is the perfect destination for anyone who is in search of unspoilt nature and tranquil rest. The island villages are developed very little for tourists and only a few restaurants can be found here. On the secluded south side of the island rich with bays, there are many Robinson Crusoe styled accommodations, where it is possible to spend a carefree holiday. These former fishermen's houses have been converted into simple tourist dwellings due to the increasing demand (Robinson tourism) and have been enjoying the last few years of growing popularity.
Paradise for Boat Owners
The bay-rich Pasman is a paradise for boaters and has, in addition, some very beautiful, idyllic sandy beaches. Furthermore, the island is characterized by lush Mediterranean vegetation and spectacular diving. The Pasmanic villages are all well protected on the side facing the mainland. The rolling landscape provides hikers and mountain bikers with excellent conditions. The capital of the island shares the same name, Pasman. Here, you can visit a beautiful medieval church. The small village of Kraj, picturesquely nestled between vineyards and olive groves, impresses its visitors with its Franciscan monastery located directly on the seafront. Dating from the 14th century this religious building now houses, among other things a museum, which displays impressive art treasures. One of the liveliest places is the small village of Tkon where a sheltered, very popular marina can be found. Northwest of the town is a Benedictine monastery, from where visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the Biograd located on the mainland. From Tkon there is a ferry service to Biograd. There is also a bridge connecting it from Pasman to the neighboring island of Ugljan continuing towards Zadar. In addition to the places mentioned, the island has other smaller harbors and places for docking. The port of Zdrelac is particularly picturesque as it is nestled into the landscape and provides a view of the bridge to the neighboring island of Ugljan. On the northeast side is the small village of Dobropoljan sitting in the same bay. The villages of Donje More and Banj are located directly by the sea, offering idyllic holiday accommodations as well as beautiful beaches. At the foot of the Semici hill sits the village of Mrljane with its tranquil sandy beach. Nevidane also boasts a partly sandy, partly rocky beach.
Enchanting Coves
On Pasman there are glorious paths for walking and cycling. The numerous hiking trails are well described on maps and almost always lead to one of the fantastic bays. There are between Zdrelac and Uvala Kablin only 4.5 kilometers. The Cerenje Bay is located just four kilometers away from Dobropoljan. The bays of Uvala Kobiljak and Uvala Vrzisce are best reached from Mrljane, while the Uvala Vzisce Bay is located near Nevidane. Especially picturesque is the trail from Kraj leading through Uvala Soline to Uvala Sv. Ante and through the Pasmanic landscape. Also worth a visit are the bays of Uvala Zincena, Uvala Landin, Uvala Vitane and Uvala Zuborovica.
How to get there
Ugljan and Pasman are two of the largest islands of the Zadar archipelago and are only separated from the mainland by a narrow channel. Accordingly, the journey turns out to be relatively short one between the two elongated islands from the south of Kukljica (Ugljan) and west of Zdrelac (Pasman) which are connected by a bridge. The ferry from Pasman is run by the Jadrolinija ship company and connects Pasman to Biograd on the mainland through the route number 432. It only takes 15 minutes for the car ferry to complete its travels and reach the port in the island town of Tkon. In the busy season between late June and late August, the ferry runs from 5am to 9pm hourly, and even nonstop if necessary. In the off season, there are still 12 connections per day, but at slightly different times. In addition, some routes do not occur depending on the day or date - so it is recommended to take a look at the more current schedule prior to departure. Those who do not like waiting for the ferry, can park their car on the mainland and, for example, be picked up in Biograd by the landlord of their rented holiday cottage by motorboat. The Jadrolinija ship company also has a car ferry route connecting Preko on Ugljan with the port city of Zadar. The route 431 travels every hour even in the low season- May to late September- from 5am to 11pm. The cheap ferry reaches its destination after about 25 minutes and is used by tourists and day trippers, as well as by many island residents who commute to work on the mainland.
