Vir Island

Around 300 large and small islands belong to the Zadar archipelago. The 22.38 km ² island of Vir is also included. Vir is connected with Privlaka over a bridge to the mainland in the direction of Zadar and is, therefore, easily reached by car. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, which make them attractive to cyclists and walkers in particular. The central town of the island is a town sharing its name with the name of the island, Vir, and is situated to the east directly after crossing the bridge. Vir has a 32 kilometer long coastline, on which there are many pebbled beaches, but also some beautiful sandy beaches, particularly in the northwest around the town of Lozice. The island also has a few hidden coves.

Bewitching Villages in Beautiful Surroundings

The main town of Vir is a popular resort. In his lively center there are a variety of shops, restaurants and cafés as well as fruit and vegetable markets. In addition to the sights are the charming Chapel of Sv. Juraj, the ruins of the fortress Kastelina and the lighthouse located on the southwest coast. Just outside of Vir, in the direction of Torovi there is also the Sv. Ivan Romanesque church cemetery. Vir is also home to the most beautiful beach on the island: Jadro. This is located directly below the center, and offers a wide selection of gastronomic meals and sanitation facilities. There is a flat, sloping into the sea pebbled beach, which makes the beach particularly suitable for families with small children and elderly people. The attractiveness of the beach is enhanced by a wide range of sports and leisure activities offered here, as well as various entertainment programs. Also very popular and well-equipped is the Lucica beach on the north side. About three kilometers northwest of Vir is another treasured resort: Lozice. Again, the guests will find beautiful, well-equipped beaches, various sports and leisure activities and shopping. Beautiful beaches can also be found near the small town of Torovi. The 12 meter high Bandira is the highest point on the island and is the perfect spot to do some amazing hiking. Up here on the hill, you can visit archaeological excavations going back to the Liburni times. For those who have ever wished to stay in a lighthouse Vis provides the perfect chance. Somewhat secluded, surrounded by aromatic fragrant pines the lighthouse built at the end of the 19th century is classified as a cultural heritage site of Croatia.

Beautiful, Romantically Wild Bays

In the romantic Sapavac Bay there is a beach which is widely famous for its healing mud. Those who bathe in it, it is said, will emerge with its beauty and its health. Sapavac is very close to the ruins of Kastelina. The Radnjaca Bay is on the northernmost point of the island and here recreation seekers will find beautiful, secluded pebbled and sand beaches.
