Peace and relaxation are even hard to find in its surrounding areas, like on Stella Maris's dazzling pebble beaches, in the former fishing village of Karigador, the picturesque Lovrecica with its famous Finida Campsite or in major tourist resorts such as Katoro and Duba. Here where the hills, between the cool forests and charming bays lay, local hotels, guest houses and private accommodations start to become full in the high season. That is why Savudrija is such a popular destination for day-trippers: The old fishing village, surrounded by dense pine groves, is known for its quaint lighthouse and boats hanging in wooden racks. Due to the pebbled beaches and frequent, strong winds combined with high waves, the boats would otherwise drown in the water. What has been a bother for fishermen for centuries, is a godsend for water athletes- the small village is a popular spot for surfers. Basanija with its rugged coastline and its romantic port exudes, just like Savudrija and Zambratija, the flair of an old fishing village and invites visitors for recreation and relaxation at sea.

In summer and only in the green, thriving vineyards and olive groves in Brtonigla do the clocks tick a little slower. Here stressed vacationers even have extra leisure time to discover the nearby natural parks and caves, the picturesque streets and the local specialties in wonderful restaurants. The Umag Riviera has also proved itself as a worthwhile destination for connoisseurs, as seen through events the city hosts, such as the day of the fungus, the day of the Adriatic Squid and the Flounder days, which take place each year in autumn and winter and in almost all the major places in and around Umag. Then, there are the many excellent restaurants where you can take delight in the Istrian-Adriatic cuisine- best accompanied by the excellent wines of the region. Once the hustle and bustle of the season has settled a bit and end events such as the Momjan bike marathon that goes around the Istrian wine center Buje-Buje, the lively Umag reveals its more relaxing side. This is the perfect time to explore the Venetian palaces and Roman relics or to be pampered at the annual Umag Welldays.
