Okrug Gornji
The municipality of Okrug Gornji, with about 3,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest towns on the island of Ciovo which lies directly in front of the central Dalmatian town of Trogir. Okrug Gornji has formed along the southwestern part of the island and extends over a peninsula to the neighboring town of Okrug Donji. The touristy, well-established holiday resort offers all kinds of recreational opportunities and variety that are required for an enjoyable beach vacation. The largest variety of offers can be found around the Copacabana beach where there are numerous restaurants, cafés and shops. In summer, the pubs and bars are well attended, if one of the local events is not taking place, that is. These festivals held by the locals are based on tradition and increase the enjoyment of tourists.
Historical interest will be awakened, however, by the 1963 named cultural monument, the Church of St. Theodore, which was built near the sea around 1439. The simple chapel is now used as the church cemetery of the community. Surrounding the church are many apartments and holiday homes, making the sacred building almost look like it is out of place. It is one of the few buildings of the village which can recall the history Okrug Gornjis. Otherwise, the resort consists of new and renovated houses that many tourists bustle about in.
