Directly opposite the Dalmatian city of Split lies the tranquil island of Brac, known for its rugged beauty. With 395 km², Brac is the third-largest island in the Adriatic. Its approximately 14,000 inhabitants mainly earn a living from tourism, olive and wine cultivation, and high-quality limestone mining. Brac limestone was already used by the Romans and is featured in landmarks such as the Diocletian Palace in Split, the White House in Washington, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, and the Neue Hofburg in Vienna.

Towns on Brac

About 20 settlements are spread across the island, with Bol and Supetar being the largest. Bol is the tourist center and offers attractions like the Dragon Cave at Murvica and the Dominican Monastery with its museum. Supetar, the island's main town, is known for works by sculptor Ivan Rendic and other sacred buildings.

Getting there

Brac is accessible via several ferry connections. The fastest route is Jadrolinija line 631 between Split and Supetar (approx. 50 minutes). From Makarska, line 638 connects the island to Sumartin in about 60 minutes. From late May to late September, catamarans run to popular destinations such as Milna, Bol, and Hvar. Taxi boats on the island provide excursions and transfers to the mainland or between islands.
