Rogoznica

Rogoznica, a popular resort especially among boat owners and sailors, is located 8 km south of Primosten and 26 km west of Trogir situated on the Adriatic coast in northern Dalmatia. With approximately 800 residents, this former fishing village is especially known for its large Marina, which is located in a natural, deeply cut bay and is nestled in the east side of the Gardina Peninsula which juts into the sea. The Marina Frapa is one of the most modern marinas in Croatia and provides 500 berths and 150 on-land boat moors. Not only the gently rocking boats before the picturesque backdrop are fascinating here. The Marina is also a popular starting point for boat trips to the northwest lying Kornati islands, or to Brac Island sitting in front of Split. The Marina therefore attracts both boat owners and visitors who want to enjoy the picturesque atmosphere. In the evenings, the nightlife in Rogoznica starts to bustle in the bars and restaurants lining the waterfront promenade. Young tourists mainly go to the Admiral Club in the Marina.

Opposite of the Marina Frapa one can see the old town of Rogoznica which is located on the small island of Kopara. This island is connected to the mainland by a 500 meter long causeway. The Mediterranean flair here is felt through the rustic stone houses, the parish church built in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, as well as traditional taverns. Much of the island is covered with dense pine forests, where guests can take walks in the Mediterranean countryside. The modern village of Rogoznica has spread out on the mainland. The cityscape of Rogoznica wavers between rustic stone houses from the past and newly built villas and cottages in the modern architecture style. Especially interesting is the Chapel of Our Lady from 1776. According to legend, it was built on the site where a fisherman always saw an image of the Virgin Mary. The chapel is one of the most important buildings in the town. It is also the central meeting place for the procession to the chapel, which takes place every year on July 2nd.

Jump into the Eye of the Dragon

A worthwhile excursion is to the Dragon's Eye Lake - one of the most famous sights in Rogoznica. The lake is located on the peninsula of Gradina, just behind the Marina. The saltwater lake got its name "Dragon's eye" for two reasons: firstly, due to its oval shape resembling a dragon's eye, and secondly, because legend has it that there is a dragon lying dormant in its depths. Myth or not: A special feature of this lake is the fact that the water becomes cloudy every few years and the fauna disappears through a narrow channel to the open sea. Some months later, the lake will become clear again and fish, jellyfish and other sea creatures begin to return. There are several trails leading around the Dragon's Eye Lake. Locals, in particular, don't use the lake for walking, but for cliff jumping - an exciting alternative to visiting the beach, although the beaches are very enticing in Rogoznica.
